קִנְטֵר, קִנְתֵּר(cmp. קָנַט) (to sting, to chide. Pes.66a התחיל מְקַנְטְרָן בדברים he began to chide them with words; Y. ib. VI, 33a מקנתרן. Gen. R. s. 98. Cant. R. to IV, 7 מפני שקִינְטְרָן ולפיוכ׳ because he rebuked them, and as they took their fathers rebuke (in silence), they were allowed to be recorded side by side with Aaron ; Num. R. s. 13 שקִינְתְּרָן. Ib. בירך … ומְקַנְתֵּרוכ׳ he blessed the tribes (his sons) and chided Reuben Y.Sot.I, 16d bot. מבריחן … ומקנתרן בקלה would he let them escape (un-rebuked) from the heavier sin, and rebuke them for the lighter? Y.Snh.VII, 24d bot. מבריחו … ומְקַנְתְּרוֹוכ׳ you cannot forego his heavier offence, and rebuke (punish) him for the lighter; a. fr. G. ; Yalk. ib. 789. 2) to make ones self disagreeable; to vex. Num. R. s. 11 מִתְקַנְטְרִים לפניהםוכ׳ they (the angels of destruction) vex them (the wicked) and say, ‘no peace ; Yalk. ib. 711.
